2011 marks a significant milestone in the venerable history of the King James Version of the Bible - it will turn 400.
Back in 1611 the translators working for James VI of Scotland finished the monumental task of translating the entire Bible into English and their efforts resulted in a book which changed the world. Although by no means the first attempt at an English translation, it was certainly the most significant and in due course became renowned for its majestic language and exquisite poetry.
Even today, when there are many modern versions of the Bible available, the King James Version has a special place in the hearts of many Bible readers internationally. |

The King James Version (KJV) is one of the first English translations of the Bible. It has left a lasting impression on our society and was the origin of many phrases which are in common usage today.
You may use the phrases "wit's end", "multitude of sins", "labour of love", "an eye for an eye", or "strength to strength" - did you know these are all taken directly from the pages of the KJV? Entirely new words were invented specifically for the Bible - including the word "beautiful".
Today we have a vast array of different versions of the Bible which make use of more modern English rather than the Shakespearean language of 1611. These include the New King James Version and the English Standard Version. |

If you asked a Christadelphian what he or she believed, this is the type of answer you might receive: "My faith is not just a set of Bible doctrines which I believe in theory. It is a faith to be lived as I try to follow the Lord Jesus day by day, and try to be like him. My greatest desire is for the Lord Jesus to return to earth so that I might glorify God, with Jesus, in his everlasting, worldwide kingdom here on earth!" |

From its earliest beginnings Christianity has been based on a single central foundation, the proclamation that Jesus was raised from the dead. He is, therefore, declared by God to be both Lord and Christ, Judge and Saviour of the whole of humanity. Because of this, the resurrection of Jesus is of vital importance. |
